The Sphere Project

The Sphere Project was launched in 1997 by a group of humanitarian NGOs and the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement. Sphere is based on two core beliefs: first, that all possible steps should be taken to alleviate human suffering arising out of calamity and conflict, and second, that those affected by disaster have a right to life with dignity and therefore a right to assistance.

CWS-P/A is the Sphere focal point in Pakistan. The  focal person is in contact with the Sphere Project Office, based in Geneva, for advice and support in making relevant Sphere-related intiatives. We have been conducting a number of training workshops for humanitarian workers to ensure that Sphere standards are applied in all disaster response activities. The Sphere handbook – Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Disaster Response has been printed in English, Urdu, Dari and Pashtu. It has also been widely disseminated among various agencies to be used as reference book during disaster planning and response activities.
